Palace Playland Amusement Park in Old Orchard Beach.

Palace Playland along the Old Orchard Beachfront and boardwalkPalace Playland has been entertaining kids and adults alike since 1902! Today it is known as “New England’s Only Beachfront Amusement Park,” and still draws in visitors from across the country.

This amusement park is situated on 5-acres of beachfront property, right beside the iconic pier at Old Orchard Beach. The salty air and ocean breeze certainly adds to the fun and excitement of a day out at the fair.

 

Attractions

The Palace Playland has 28 rides altogether, as well as a large arcade. The 28 rides on offer fall into 3 categories: Kiddy rides, Family rides, and Thrill rides.

Kiddy Rides

Include such classics as the old-fashioned pony carousel, spinning teacups, the Frog Hopper, and more. All kiddy rides cost only two tickets per ride.

Family rides at Palace PlaylandFamily Rides

Family rides like dodgem cars, Drop Zone, and Cascade Falls (log flume) is perfect to do in groups, especially if you’re supervising younger children who want to go on the “big kid” rides. Children under 42 inches tall can only ride with an adult and rides cost between 3-4 tickets.

The Coasters and Thrill rides

These are for the adrenaline junkies of the group. Several popular rollercoasters, and fairground classics such as the Pirate and the Power Surge amongst several others, can be enjoyed by some members of the family. Several of these rides do have height restrictions, so some games will have to be skipped by younger family members. Rides cost between 3-5 tickets.

The Arcade

Palace Playland Arcade & Carnival GamesThe Palace Playland arcade is a particular drawcard for people in Maine and comes in at a whopping 24,000 square feet, one of the largest in the whole of New England. The arcade is chock-full of 200+ vintage arcade games, modern video games, and much more. For history buffs, you can even find (and play) some vintage arcade pieces from the 1950s.

Fireworks

Every Thursday at 9:45, Palace Playland offers a spectacular fireworks display for visitors and locals alike. There is also a display on the 4th of July every year.

 

Tickets and Admission

Palace Playland offers convenient parking for visitors, and entrance to the site is free! You simply have to pay for the rides you want to try, which is usually done through purchasing single-pass tickets. One single-pass ticket costs $1.55, and each ride requires around 2-4 tickets for admission. Other ticket options include:

Ticket Book: Ticket bundle, a certain amount of tickets that can be used whenever you attend the park. $36.50 for 24, and $69.95 for 50.

One-Day Pass: Allows unlimited access to all 28 rides, from opening until close. $39 for an adult pass, $33 for kids.

Two Day Pass: Unlimited access for two days, limited depending on the season.

Season Pass: For $145.95 you get unlimited access to all rides, every day through summer! Tickets need to be purchased through the Palace Playland website, as they don’t sell season passes at the park ticket booth.

Flume Water Ride at Palace Playland

If you are looking to attend Palace Playland as a large group or as part of a corporate function, the park offers special rates to groups of 24 or more as well as corporate discounts. Just make sure to book 48 hours in advance.

Opening Hours

Rides at Palace Playland typically open at 12 pm on weekdays, and 11 am on weekends during peak season. Closing hours are not fixed and instead, depend on weather and attendance on any given day. Palace Playland operates on a seasonal basis and is only open from late May to early September.
